A good Christian man (who owned a Jeep dealership) was highly successful in his business.  In fact, he had just completed the most rewarding year financially of his career.  He had paid his taxes and had given a large donation to the church, but still wanted to do something more.

One Sunday morning, he stood up at church and asked permission to speak.  He then informed everyone of his good fortune and how he planned to share it with everyone.  He asked for the head of each household to come forward and receive a certificate that they could take to the dealership and exchange for a brand new Jeep!  He was giving each family a brand new vehicle!  Along with each Jeep was a free 1-year service contract.  All he asked in return, was that each person receiving a vehicle read the service contract.

Bob and John were two members of the church who lived across the street from one another.  Each had received a certificate and each had exchanged them for a new Jeep.  The Jeeps were brand new, but were without any fancy add-on options.  After one month had passed, Bob noticed that John came home one day with a custom "Roll Bar" installed on his Jeep.  He was curious where John had gotten extra money to purchase the Roll Bar when they both worked for the same company and both made about the same money.  But, Bob let it pass and gave it no more thought.

After another month had passed, Bob noticed that John now had new "Off Road" lights installed on his Roll Bar.  He was now getting upset that John could afford to add these extra items to his Jeep while he had no extra money in his budget.  But, again he let it go and said nothing.

After the third month, Bob became furious when he saw John come home one day with new "Running Boards" on his Jeep.  Bob immediatly ran across the street and confronted John.  "How can you afford these extra items for your Jeep, when we both work for the same company and make the same salary?" he demanded.  John just looked at Bob and asked, "Didn't you read your service contract?"  "No!  Why should I?  It's just a standard service contract!" Bob snapped back.  John just shook his head and said. "I can't explain it to you.  Just go home and read your Service Contract."  John then turned away and went into his house.

Bob didn't now what to think.  Going back to his house, Bob stopped at his Jeep and took out the Service Contract from the Glove Box, where it had been since he had first received his vehicle.  He went into his house, sat down at the kitchen table, and began to read the Contract.  In the very first paragraph the Service Contract stated, that along with receiving the Jeep for free, on the 1st of each month, each family would receive one add-on item for free.  All they had to do was to go to the dealer and ask.  However, if you did not go and ask on the 1st of each month, the item for that month would no longer be available to you!  There was no going back and asking for the items that you had missed!

Just like the Service Contract, God has made promises to all mankind and to His followers!  God's Service Contract is the Bible!  Just like in the story, all we have to do to receive God's promises is to ask!  And, just like the story, if you don't read the Bible, you won't know what God has promised us or what to ask for!
Read the Bible so that you will know what's in your Service Contract!
